Senate recalls suspended Senator Abdul Ningi – The Sun Nigeria

By Abuja, Kenneth Udeh

With less than two weeks of his suspended sentence remaining, Senator Abdul Ningi (PDP, Bauchi Central) has been recalled to the Senate to resume his legislative duties.

Abdul Ahmed Ningi, who was suspended on March 12, 2024, was recalled to the Senate upon the request of Deputy Minority Leader Sen. Abba Moro, who also expressed regret on behalf of the suspended Senator.

According to a senior South-South politician who spoke to Daily Sun, the Senate took its decision without receiving any open or confidential apology from the Bauchi Central Senator.

The MP, who wished to remain anonymous, said that Ningi was sticking to his stance on the decision not to apologise to the Senate, but three members of the minority leadership had apologised on his behalf and called on Senate President Godswill Akpabio to recall the MP.

Recall that Abdul Ningi was suspended for three months after claiming that the 2024 budget was inflated by 3.7 trillion naira.

On Tuesday, Senator Abba Moro pledged to take full responsibility for Senator Ningi’s actions and acknowledged the seriousness of the suspension. The Senator’s conduct during the suspension has been the subject of extensive scrutiny and debate within Parliament.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio highlighted the Senator’s ingenuity and described him as a valued member of the Senate, adding that the decision to recall Senator Ningi transcends religious and ethnic boundaries.

Senators subsequently voted by voice vote to remove Ningi after Senator Akpabio questioned the motion.
