Woman walking on shoulder hit and killed by car near Tracy

TRACY – A woman was struck and killed by a car just outside Tracy early Tuesday morning, authorities said.

According to the California Highway Patrol, a motorist was driving along Eleventh Street around 1 a.m. when someone apparently walking on the shoulder west of Cabe Road walked directly into the vehicle’s path.

The driver then collided with the woman, and the force of the impact threw her to the southern edge of the road.

According to officials, the woman died at the scene.

According to CHP, the driver, a 70-year-old Newman resident, remained at the scene of the accident and cooperated with the investigation.

The name of the woman killed has not been released, but the CHP believes she was homeless.
