Wednesday night through Thursday morning for Central NC

RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) – The CBS 17 Storm Team has issued a Storm Team Alert Day for the night of Wednesday, May 8th into Thursday morning, May 9th.

The Storm Prediction Center has placed most of central North Carolina in the Slight Severe Weather Risk category (Level 2 out of 5), with our primary threats being damaging wind gusts and large hail. Temperatures are expected to climb into the upper 80s and lower 90s Wednesday afternoon, with humidity also increasing.

This is the fuel for thunderstorms that can quickly become strong to severe. In the case of Wednesday and Thursday, a complex of thunderstorms moving through the Midwest will eventually reach our region on Wednesday evening.

The storms are expected to continue into Thursday morning, bringing heavy rain in addition to damaging wind gusts and large hail. There is a slight chance of an isolated shower or thunderstorm through Thursday afternoon, but morning rain could “stabilize” the atmosphere, making it harder for thunderstorms to form. This is a complex system that we will be following closely. So stay tuned with your CBS17 Storm Team prediction!
