Utica man arrested for burglary on Mohawk Street

UTICA, NY (WUTR/WFXV/WPNY) — A Utica man is facing weapons charges following an alleged burglary attempt on Mohawk Street on Monday, May 27, according to Utica police.

On Monday, May 27, officers were called to the 1000 block of Mohawk Street around 6 p.m. to investigate a possible burglary and trespassing. When they arrived at the residence, they spoke with the caller, who stated that a man – later identified as 34-year-old Timothy Cubbage of Utica – had entered her apartment and was currently hiding in the back hallway. According to police, Cubbage was allegedly familiar with the victim at the time of the incident.


Police said they then found Cubbage in the back hallway of the house. Officers also noticed that the man was wearing a bag around his chest.

When Cubbage saw police coming, he allegedly threw the bag away and retreated into the hallway. Eventually, Cubbage emerged without the bag and was immediately arrested for investigation.

A further examination of the back of the bag revealed a nine-millimeter pistol. Cubbage was immediately arrested and taken to the Utica Police Department.

At the end of the investigation, Cubbage was charged with:

  • Criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree, a class C violent felony,
  • two counts of third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, a class D violent felony, and
  • Criminal possession of a firearm, a class E felony.
