Motorcyclist killed on Memorial Day in Kansas City, Missouri

KANSAS CITY, Missouri – One person was killed in a motorcycle crash in Kansas City Monday afternoon, according to Kansas City police.

After a preliminary investigation, KCPD said the driver of a Kawasaki Ninja motorcycle was struck and run over by a Ford F250 tow truck shortly before 4:30 p.m. on Memorial Day after traveling southbound on Blue Ridge Boulevard at a high rate of speed.

Police said that when the motorcyclist reached Winner Road – a little less than a half-mile from Interstate 435 – he left the road and lost control of the motorcycle. He then failed to stop at a stop sign and drove into the intersection, where he was struck by the tow truck.

The motorcyclist was taken to a hospital where he later died. The driver and passenger of the tow truck were uninjured in the accident, KCPD said.

According to police, 32 fatal car accidents were reported during the same period last year. In 2024, there were 43.
