Police say there were no traffic fatalities in Connecticut over Memorial Day weekend

According to police, there were no fatalities on the state’s roads over the Memorial Day weekend, after four people were killed in May of last year.

According to the agency, police responded to 312 car accidents this year, compared to 273 last year. 42 of these accidents resulted in injuries, one of them in Thompson with serious injuries.

Last year, two accidents with serious injuries and four fatalities were reported, state police said.

State police made 25 drunken driving arrests this year, compared to 36 in 2023.

The number of seat belt violations reported by state police was lower than last year. During the holiday weekend this year, 44 violations were reported, compared to 208 last year.

Speeding violations also decreased compared to last year. This year, 427 speeding violations were reported by state police, compared to 518 in 2023.

Dangerous traffic violations such as tailgating or ignoring lane markings have also dropped significantly this year. In 2023, 576 tickets were issued for dangerous traffic violations, including 256 on this holiday weekend, state police said.
