Route 34 in Colts Neck closed after car accident

COLTS NECK – Route 34 was closed in both directions between Newman Springs Road and South Street Saturday morning after a vehicle crashed into a utility pole, authorities said.

Sergeant Matthew Miyakawa of Colts Neck said the highway is expected to remain closed for most of the day while crews from Jersey Central Power & Light and Verizon help clear the crash scene.

A motorist traveling south on Route 34 struck a pole and crashed his car at about 6:07 a.m. The driver was uninjured, Miyakawa said.

The traffic is “not so bad at the moment,” he said shortly before 12 noon. “But since it is a beautiful day, we expect heavy traffic.”

The New Jersey Department of Transportation has put up signs to divert traffic, Miyakawa said.
