Man arrested and charged after stabbings at Massachusetts movie theater and McDonald’s – NBC Boston

A Massachusetts man will go on trial Tuesday on multiple charges, including assault with intent to murder, after six people, including four girls at a movie theater, were stabbed in separate attacks, officials said.

Jared Ravizza, 26, of Chilmark, a town on Martha’s Vineyard, was arrested Saturday night after a police chase.

According to police, a person entered the AMC Braintree 10 south of Boston around 6 p.m. on Saturday and entered one of the theaters without paying.

The girls, aged between 9 and 17, were in the cinema when the man suddenly attacked them “without saying anything and without warning” and then ran out, Braintree police said in a press release.

The four suffered non-life-threatening injuries and were taken to hospitals.

Video footage showed the suspect’s vehicle and a license plate, and this information was passed on to police, police said.

A vehicle matching that description was later seen in Plymouth, about 27 miles south of Braintree. Police said it drove away from a McDonald’s restaurant where a 21-year-old woman and a 29-year-old man were found stabbed to death. Both were taken to hospital with injuries.

According to prosecutors, surveillance video shows Ravizza allegedly reaching through the drive-in window and stabbing the man with a large knife.

State police found the vehicle another 20 miles south in Sandwich and attempted to stop it without success. The vehicle later crashed.

Ravizza, the driver, was arrested shortly afterward and treated at a hospital for non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

Ravizza faces charges in connection with the restaurant robbery and is under investigation for the stabbings at the theater, officials said.

According to court records, Ravizza was arrested on Martha’s Vineyard in April and charged with assault on a family or household member and vandalism after allegedly attacking his father.

Ravizza’s father told officers that Ravizza “simply had a nervous breakdown and attacked him,” the police report said.

The Globe reported that Ravizza was taken to Martha’s Vineyard Hospital for a psychiatric evaluation, but “did not meet standards for detention,” the report said. The Edgartown case was sent for pretrial diversion.

It was not immediately known whether Ravizza has a lawyer who can represent him. No phone book with Ravizza’s name could be found.
