District police charge Pittsburgh man with Reserve Bank robbery

A Pittsburgh man has been charged in connection with a May 16 bank robbery in Reserve, according to Allegheny County police.

Detectives were investigating a robbery at the Dollar Bank on Mount Troy Road. Based on several surveillance videos, images of the suspect fleeing the bank and witness interviews, police were able to identify the suspect as 38-year-old Mark A. Laughner.

On Friday, police discovered Laughner on Spring Garden Avenue, from where he fled into a wooded area and was arrested a short time later with the help of a Pittsburgh Police Department sniffer dog unit.

He is charged with two counts of aggravated robbery, as well as terroristic threats, theft by unauthorized taking and simple assault. He failed to make bail and was taken to the Allegheny County Jail.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for June 6 in Shaler Court before Judge Daniel Konieczka Jr.

The robbery in mid-May prompted county police and local FBI agents to launch a major operation and soon searched the area with drones and police dogs.
