Driver killed, woman raped in suspected robbery in Mbita

Police in Mbita are pursuing suspects in connection with the killing of a bodaboda rider in Suba North constituency on Tuesday.

The driver was killed by a gang who also stole his motorcycle and raped his wife.

The gangsters are said to have entered the rider’s house at around 4 a.m. on Tuesday and severely attacked him with a panga, knocking him unconscious.

The driver was taken to Homa Bay County Referral Hospital, where he died a few hours later.

According to a local chief, the attackers also disappeared with the drivers’ mobile phones.

The boss said the gangsters were heard saying they wanted money that had been raised at a fundraiser a few days ago.

Before this incident, he had been attacked by a group of gangsters and his motorcycle had been stolen.

His colleagues organized a fundraiser to help him buy another copy.

There is suspicion that the attackers were after the money raised through the fundraising.

“They held a fundraiser so that he could buy another motorcycle. He had lost his first motorcycle in a robbery,” the police chief told reporters.

“The gangsters then raped his wife, who was also hospitalized after the incident,” he said.

The officer said they had received crucial clues to identify the murder suspects.

According to police, security officials have begun recording the names of suspects to facilitate tracking.

Solomon Barngetuny, Mbita Subcounty Police Commander, said they were searching for the suspects.

“My officers have gone to the scene and I will release further details based on their assessment,” Barngetuny said.

The rider’s body is at the morgue of the Homa Bay County Referral Hospital.
