Kadie Price from Michigan died while protecting her daughter from an out-of-control car during a drag race

A Michigan mother was fatally struck by an out-of-control car at a drag racing event on Sunday while heroically saving the life of her 2-year-old daughter.

Kadie Price, 33, was in the crowd with her family when a 1980 Jeep CJ went out of control, left the track and eventually collided with another vehicle, police said.

As a result, Price was struck by the other vehicle that was stationary at the time of impact – just seconds after she had pulled her daughter to safety.

As MLive.com reported, chaos reigned in the sand dunes of Silver Lake State Park in western Oceana County, about 270 miles northwest of Detroit.

Although several people, including rangers from Silver Lake State Park, rushed to help Price immediately, they were ultimately unable to save her.

Price was pronounced dead shortly after the attack around noon.

Thanks to her mother’s quick reaction, her daughter was able to avoid “serious injuries or worse,” police said.

“Please pray for the Price family,” the Oceana County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.

The driver of the Jeep has been identified as a 64-year-old man from Michigan. His name is not being released at this time as the investigation is ongoing.

Two off-roaders who took part in Sunday’s race have now described the terrible incident in detail.

“I’ve been coming here for a long time,” Bryce Straubel told WOOD. “This was probably one of the worst accidents I’ve ever seen.”

“It breaks my heart,” Straubel added. “People come here to have fun, and this mother just lost her life. She pushed her daughter out of the way to save her – it’s just hard to hear that. Really.”

Silver Lake State Park is a 3,000-acre park along the shores of Lake Michigan. It includes approximately 2,000 acres of sand dunes.
