San Diego police officer Anthony Hair resigns after locking himself in the back seat with a prisoner

US News

A San Diego police officer has resigned after he was caught locked in the back seat of his patrol car last year with a female prisoner who offered him sex, newly released bodycam footage shows.

Officer Anthony Hair left his post about a month after the investigation into the incident began in August 2023 and a day before he was scheduled to meet with investigators for his second scheduled interview.

According to CBS 8, Hair, who had been with the SDPD for two years, was in the vehicle with the female suspect after arresting her on suspicion of car theft outside a convenience store.

The suspect, whose name was not released, was one of two people wanted for car theft and had an arrest warrant out for her.

After arresting her, Hair was to take her to police headquarters and later to the Las Colinas Detention Center in Santee, California for questioning.

In bodycam footage released by the SDPD, the suspect can be heard offering the officer sex after asking him if he was married.

“You’re not that bad. What harm can it do me to game the system, you know what I mean? That’s the way I look at shit,” she told Hair.

“Are you single?” she added, to which he replied, “Yes, but you’re not.”

“I’m fucking right now,” she told him before he interrupted, “Don’t say that now… Don’t say that now, because everything is being recorded right now.”

As the couple approached the detention center, Hair could be heard asking the suspect what she was doing in the back seat.

Hair turned off his body camera and slowed his vehicle as he turned onto a residential street, the outlet added.

About twenty minutes later, Hair called for a colleague to help him out of the police car because of this embarrassing mishap.

“I asked him if I was OK. He said yes and then asked if I had the keys to my patrol car… I asked why he was asking and what he needed,” the unidentified officer said of Hair, describing him as panicking. “Officer Hair then asked me if I could meet him.”

“I asked him where he was and he said near Cottonwood… I asked him why he needed me and he said he would tell me when I got there. He said he was really embarrassed.”

According to NBC San Diego, investigators believed Hair believed the woman was experiencing a medical emergency.

Hair and the woman denied that anything unusual happened, while the officer claimed he “looked” behind the suspect.

“When I woke her up, I noticed the door closing in front of me. So I tried to open the door somehow,” Hair said in the clip.

San Diego police found traces of semen on Hair’s belt, CBS reported.

“He wanted to meet with me when the arrest warrant or whatever was issued against me was over,” she said.

It is unclear whether he will face criminal charges for this ordeal.
