Johnny Wactor shot dead in LA

Johnny Wactor, best known for his role as Brando Corbin on “General Hospital,” was reportedly shot and killed in downtown Los Angeles. He was 37 years old.

According to local television station KTLA, Wactor was shot early Saturday morning during an attempted catalytic converter theft downtown. His death was confirmed to KTLA by Johnny’s younger brother Grant.

In a statement to Variety, Wactor’s talent agent David Shaul called the actor a “spectacular human being” who was “a true moral role model to everyone who knew him.”

“He represents hard work, tenacity and a never-give-up attitude. Through the ups and downs of a demanding profession, he always kept his head up and continued to strive to be the best,” Shaul said in a statement. “Our time with Johnny was a privilege we would wish on anyone. He would literally give you the shirt off your back. After over a decade together, he will forever leave a hole in our hearts.”

According to KTLA, the Los Angeles Police Department reported that officers responded to Pico Boulevard and Hope Street around 3:25 a.m. local time on Saturday. When they arrived at the scene, officers found a man suffering from a gunshot wound.

According to KTLA, the LAPD said the man saw three men stealing the catalytic converter from his vehicle, and when he confronted them, they turned around and shot him. The actor’s mother, Scarlett, told ABC 7 her son had just left work at a downtown rooftop bar when the incident happened, and Wactor initially thought his car was being towed, so he approached the person and asked if that was the case. However, when the masked suspect looked up, the suspect opened fire on her son, according to Scarlett.

According to ABC 7, paramedics took Wactor to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The suspects are still at large, police said.

Wactor’s mother Scarlett said in an interview with Fox News Digital that authorities are planning an autopsy and the actor’s family will return him to South Carolina for burial.

“I want everyone to know that they have lost a great person. It leaves a huge gap in my life and his brother’s life,” Scarlett said of her son. “We buried my husband, their father, just four years ago. And he was very loved by his friends and family. He lived life to the fullest, he followed his dreams, he was a very optimistic, positive person.”

She concluded: “I hope they catch them and I hope Johnny gets justice. That’s all I can hope for and pray for. I will see him again. But down here on earth, it’s going to be a very, very long road without him for me and his brothers.”

Wactor appeared in the ABC daytime soap as Brando Corbin between 2020 and 2022. However, he made his acting debut on television in the Lifetime drama series Army Wives (2007).

His other television roles include “Hollywood Girl” (2010), “Sibiria” (2013), “Agent X” (2015), “Vantastic” (2016), “Animal Kingdom” (2016), “Criminal Minds” (2017), “NCIS” (2019), “The OA” (2019), “Westworld” (2020), “The Passenger” (2020) and “Station 19” (2023).
