Susan McFarlane: 70-year-old woman dies in accident in Nevada County

NEVADA COUNTY, Calif. – A 70-year-old woman died in an ATV accident in southern Nevada County Monday morning.

According to the California Highway Patrol, emergency crews were dispatched just before 9 a.m. to a reported ATV accident on private property off Springfield Drive, near Dog Bar Road.

According to police, 70-year-old Susan McFarlane was operating a 2003 Yamaha Kodiak ATV when she made a dangerous turn that caused her ATV to overturn and eject her from the vehicle. She struck the ground and suffered severe injuries to her head and neck.

Despite the efforts of first responders, she died at the scene of the accident.

According to police, she was not wearing a helmet when the accident happened. The accident is still under investigation, but drugs and alcohol are not suspected as possible factors.
