Russell’s first warning forecast: Severe storms tonight

Good afternoon, Eastern North Carolina! Prepare for a day of rapidly changing weather conditions. The forecast indicates an increased risk of severe weather today, characterized by strong instability and strong wind shear favorable to the development of severe thunderstorms.

A significant rise in temperatures is expected this afternoon, with heat indices reaching triple digits, particularly inland. This combination of heat and humidity will pose an increased risk of heat and will prompt residents to take heat protection measures.

Towards the evening, a cold front moving in from the west will likely maintain thunderstorm activity overnight. The strength and extent of these storms could increase, with hail and damaging winds being the main threat.

Midweek, another front will advance early Thursday and maintain the active pattern before a cooler high pressure system moves in. We expect a dry spell with moderate temperatures later in the week.
