Dog attack injures five people in Milwaukee

Five people were injured in a dog attack near 84th and Melvina streets Sunday morning. Milwaukee police said the dog escaped from its home and bit the five people around 10:15 a.m. The victims’ injuries were not fatal. Neighbors told 12 News they saw two dogs roaming the area that morning. It’s not clear if both attacked. The dogs were filmed in the parking lot of St. Matthew Lutheran Church minutes after the attack. Pastor Jonathan Balge of the church said they had just finished their Sunday service. “It’s a peaceful, joyful feeling leaving church, praying together and so forth, and so they don’t expect a chaotic, dangerous situation, but that’s exactly what it was,” Balge said. Some of those church members rushed to help when the attack occurred. Balge said one person tried to capture the dogs and another helped one of the victims get to safety. According to Balge, at least two church members were among the five injured. However, the pastor is grateful that everyone survived the attack. “Many people in different ways prevented it from being worse than it could have been,” Balge said. Milwaukee police said the dog’s owner received a ticket. It is unclear what happened to the two dogs seen on camera.
