One dead in May 24 crash near Salado, Texas

SALADO, Texas — One person is dead and another is in critical condition following a fatal crash near Salado on May 24, the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) said.

According to DPS, a Ford F-250 pickup truck was traveling south on Interstate 35 near the 284-mile marker at around 7:19 p.m.

The lead DPS officer investigating the accident stated that an unoccupied Kenworth semi-trailer truck was properly parked on the paved shoulder due to a mechanical failure.

According to DPS, the F-250 “could not travel in a single lane” and struck the parked semi-trailer.

A rear seat passenger, identified by police as 24-year-old Byron Lopez Lima of Austin, died at the scene, police said. A 20-year-old front seat passenger was reportedly taken to Baylor Scott & White in critical condition.

DPS says the crash report is “active and open.” No further information has been provided.
