Georgie Campbell died at the age of 37 after falling from a horse at the Bicton Trials

Equestrian star Georgie Campbell, 37, died on Sunday, May 26, after falling from his horse at the Bicton International Horse Trials in Devon, England.

“It is with deep regret that we announce that Georgie Campbell (GBR) has suffered a fatal accident while competing,” British Eventing, which governs the country’s eventing sport, wrote in a statement.

“After her fall at fence 5b, medical professionals were immediately on site, but unfortunately she could not be saved,” the statement continued.

British Eventing noted that Campbell’s horse, named Global Quest, “returned to the stable and was uninjured” after being examined by veterinarians.

“To respect the family’s privacy at this extremely difficult and sad time, no further details will be released,” British Eventing said in its final statement.

Campbell married fellow eventer Jesse Campbell in December 2020. The couple posted about Global Quest several times this year on their team Campbell Eventing’s Instagram account.

“Global Quest at his best 🤩 George, owned by @morrishdiana, was at his best at Osberton, finishing 🥉 in the 3* race from over 110 starters,” read one caption posted on May 5, while another, more recent one, said: “Georgie’s boys were at their best and Global Quest and Speedwell jumped fantastic double clears in the 4* race.”

The equestrian community mourned Campbell’s death on social media, with fellow rider Pippa Funnell and Bicton Arena accounts sharing an image with three emojis: a white and a purple heart hovering above a dove with an olive branch.

“Our thoughts are with Georgie’s family and friends during this devastating time,” Bicton Arena wrote in the caption.

Instagram users also expressed their condolences on Team Campbell Eventing’s May 5 Instagram post. “Deepest condolences on the loss of Georgie. Praying that you find comfort and peace in the days ahead,” one user wrote.

“I’m just so devastated for you all,” added another. “You are all in my thoughts and prayers x.”
