Six people were injured in a two-vehicle crash in unincorporated McHenry County near Marengo. Due to the large number of patients being taken to area hospitals, additional ambulances from surrounding fire districts were required, authorities said.

Communications Specialist Alex Vucha said the Marengo Fire Department was called to the intersection of Route 23 and River Road at 2:40 p.m. Monday for a two-vehicle crash with multiple injuries.

According to Vucha, firefighters arrived on scene within minutes and saw moderate damage from the crash involving two vehicles, a Buick SUV and a Hyundai sedan.

Due to the large number of affected patients, firefighters requested additional ambulances and emergency personnel from the Woodstock, Huntley, Genoa-Kingston and Hampshire fire districts to the scene, Vucha said.

In total, five patients in the Buick and one patient in the Hyundai were taken by ambulance to local hospitals, Vucha said.

All patients involved suffered mild to moderate injuries that were not life-threatening, Vucha said.

The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the accident, Vucha said.
