Four teenagers die after serious collision on State Highway 16/60 in Wisconsin

ELBA, Wis. (WFRV) – Four teenagers were killed and another was seriously injured when their truck collided with a tractor-trailer early Monday in rural southern Wisconsin.

According to the Dodge County Sheriff’s Office, officers responded to a report of a two-vehicle crash at approximately 4:00 a.m. on State Highway 16/60 in Elba Township, approximately three miles east of Columbus.


A preliminary investigation revealed that a pickup truck was traveling northbound on County Highway TT when the driver failed to stop at a stop sign. As a result, it collided with a tractor-trailer traveling eastbound on State Highway 16/60, resulting in a serious and fatal crash.

Three of the five occupants of the pickup died at the scene. They were identified as a 19-year-old man from Sun Prairie, a 17-year-old boy from Sun Prairie and a 16-year-old boy from Madison.

In addition, two 18-year-old women from Madison were taken to a nearby hospital. The Dodge County Sheriff’s Office said one of them died while the other was fighting for her life.

The tractor-trailer was driven by a 57-year-old man from La Farge, who was also taken to a nearby hospital for minor injuries sustained in the accident.

The collision on Elba is still being investigated by the authorities and no further details have been released.
