Police officer who allegedly raped a woman in custody

A police officer who allegedly raped a woman in the Valelevu police single house on Sunday has been arrested and is in custody.

Police said the Criminal Investigation Department’s Serious Crimes Unit was continuing its investigation and that, on the instructions of Acting Police Chief Sakeo Raikaci, the investigation file would be forwarded to the Public Prosecutor’s Office as soon as possible for independent legal advice.

A/ACP Raikaci said that the progress of the investigation would be reported in due course.

A/ACP Raikaci had earlier ordered the swift arrest of the suspect when he fled the scene following the alleged incident.
