Warwick police officer shoots dog – NECN

A police officer in Warwick, Rhode Island, shot and killed a dog on Sunday evening that had allegedly attacked a group of people, another dog and eventually the police officer.

Warwick police told Boston affiliate NBC10 WJAR that the officer was the first to respond to a report of a domestic dispute at 734 Greenwich Avenue, a residential area across from the Crowne Plaza.

Police were notified that a dog was behaving violently in the front yard of the home. When the officer arrived at the scene, he found the dog attacking several people.

Once on the scene, the dog attacked and bit the officer, who then “fired his weapon and stopped the dog,” police Lt. Jeffery Viveiros told WJAR.

According to police, the officer and another person were treated for their injuries. The dog was pronounced dead at a local animal hospital.

Few details have been released about the domestic dispute that preceded the dog attack. The investigation is ongoing.
