Joseph Erb was arrested on May 2 for a stabbing on Chandler Street

A 35-year-old city man was arrested Saturday in connection with a stabbing outside a Chandler Street residence on the afternoon of May 2 that left one man hospitalized.

Joseph S. Erb, who is listed in court records as living on Austin Street, was arrested Saturday, Worcester police wrote in a news release posted on Facebook Monday.

Court records show that Worcester police Officer Joshua Monfreda filed a warrant for Erb’s arrest in Central District Court on May 3 on charges of voluntary manslaughter and assault with a dangerous weapon.

Police arrived at the residences at 23 Chandler Street around 3:45 p.m. the previous day after several callers reported that a man had been stabbed.

Their investigation focused on the area around the front steps of the historic apartment building in St. Ives, where bloodstains and a small stereo system playing music were seen while investigators spoke to witnesses.

Monfreda wrote in court documents that a male victim was stabbed twice – once in the upper right chest area and once in the upper right back area – and taken to UMass Memorial Hospital – Lake Avenue, where he was sedated and intubated.
