A doctor working at Annotto Bay Hospital in St Mary was suspended for a year last month for negligence.

The Medical Council of Jamaica has filed a lawsuit against Dr. Mohammed Khan in connection with an incident involving a patient at his private practice in February 2022.

According to a statement from Radio Jamaica NewsThe council held hearings on February 21 and 28 and March 6 and 15 after receiving complaints from the family.

It was reported that her relative, who was under the care of Dr Khan, was given a local anesthetic and showed seizure-like movements after an injection was administered.

She reportedly died on the way to the hospital.

Health Minister Dr. Christopher Tufton said the decision had been communicated to the Northeast Regional Health Authority and “when Dr. Khan’s contract expired, it was not renewed.”

Under the Council’s suspension order, Dr Khan will be supervised by a senior surgeon for six months upon his return to practice and that senior surgeon will then be invited to confirm his competency.

In addition, the private establishment where he practiced must be certified by the relevant department of the Ministry of Health before he can resume his activity.
