Man charged with murder in Saturday incident – ​​State’s first update

Dover Police have announced the arrest of 59-year-old William Mills of Dover in connection with the murder of 29-year-old Jonair Pollard, also of Dover. Pollard was shot and killed in the Capital Green neighborhood on May 25.

Officials said Saturday night, Dover police responded to a call reporting a shooting in the area of ​​New Castle Avenue and East Water Street at 4:22 p.m. Officers found Pollard with a gunshot wound to the upper torso. He was taken to Bayhealth Kent Campus for treatment, but was pronounced dead at the hospital due to his injuries.

Dover police said investigators have identified Mills as the suspect responsible for the shooting. On Sunday, the Dover Police Department’s Special Operations Response Team executed a search warrant at Mills’ residence on East Wind Drive in Dover. Mills was arrested without incident and transported to Dover Police Department for processing and arraignment.

The following allegations are made against Mills:

  • First degree murder
  • Possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime
  • Possession of a firearm by a person is prohibited

He is currently being held at SCI on $250,000 bail. Mills is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
