BATAVIA/Driver receives ticket for May 17 accident at corner of Ellicott and Jackson Streets – Video News Service

***Update*** Batavia Police have completed their investigation into the crash. Preliminary findings appear to be accurate. Both the driver and passenger of the 2012 Ford Focus were treated, released, and are expected to make a full recovery.

The driver of the Focus reported to BPD Headquarters on May 25, 2024 and received a ticket for VTL 1111(d)1 – Red Signal Failure, which was to be cashed in at the Batavia Municipal Court on May 29, 2024 at 9:30 a.m.

On 05/17/2024 at approximately 9:30 p.m., Batavia Police along with the City of Batavia Fire Department and Mercy EMS responded to a car crash at the intersection of Ellicott St and Jackson St. A preliminary investigation revealed that a 2012 Ford Focus was traveling southbound on Jackson St. and ran a red light at Ellicott St. The car was struck on the passenger side by a semi-truck traveling eastbound on Ellicott St. Both occupants of the Ford Focus sustained significant injuries and were transported to Strong Memorial Hospital. The driver of the semi-truck was uninjured. The investigation into the crash is ongoing and charges are pending. Batavia Police were assisted at the scene by the City of Batavia Fire Department, Mercy EMS and the Genesee County Sheriff’s Office Crash Management Team.
