Oxnard man in stable condition after being shot by Oxnard police officer Sunday night

OXNARD, Calif. – A 27-year-old Oxnard resident is currently in stable condition after being shot by an Oxnard police officer Sunday evening.

On May 26 at around 11:26 p.m., officers responded to several calls about a man walking in the roadway with a sharp object in the area of ​​Ventura Road and Doris Avenue, according to the Oxnard Police Department.

Arriving officers identified the 27-year-old man as an Oxnard resident who had an arrest warrant for attempted murder in connection with a previous stabbing incident, Oxnard police said.

According to Oxnard police, officers made contact with the man, gave him instructions that he did not follow, and subsequently “an officer-involved shooting occurred.”

Officers and paramedics rendered aid to the man and he was taken to Ventura County Medical Center, where he is currently in stable condition, Oxnard police said.

The incident was captured on an officer’s body-worn camera and will be shown as part of a community critical incident debriefing for which no publicly announced date has yet been announced, Oxnard police said.

The Oxnard Police Department said all officers involved have been placed on leave while the investigation continues according to standard procedure for police-involved shootings.
