A man is killed in a two-vehicle accident near Edinburgh

WESLACO, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The Texas Department of Public Safety is investigating a two-vehicle crash that left one man dead.

At approximately 1:41 a.m. Sunday, Weslaco police responded to a crash on Wisconsin Road west of FM 907 east of Edinburg.

A preliminary investigation revealed a 2005 Ford Focus was stationary with a man lying on the trunk with no occupants inside.

A blue 2005 Chevrolet Silverado was occupied by a male driver who was traveling eastbound on Wisconsin Road and rear-ended the Ford, according to DPS.

The man lying on top of the Ford became airborne and landed in the eastbound lane of Wisconsin Road.

The Ford veered off the road into an open field at the southwest corner of Wisconsin Road and FM 907, where it came to a complete stop.

The driver of the Chevrolet was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and was released Sunday morning.

The man in the Ford was transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The man died in hospital on Monday from his injuries. His identity will be withheld until next of kin is notified, authorities said.

The crash is still under investigation.
