First warning day: Severe weather is possible on Memorial Day | Weather

DELMARVA- We started our Memorial Day with a few showers and thunderstorms. More severe thunderstorms are expected this afternoon and evening, and severe weather is possible.

A warm and humid air mass is ahead of a strong cold front. Temperatures are expected to rise to 80 to 85 degrees throughout the morning and afternoon, with temperatures a little lower at the beaches. If you’re out and about on Memorial Day, we should have dry weather through the early afternoon.







Serious threat

Watch for darkening weather conditions in the afternoon. Showers and thunderstorms are expected across the region after 3 p.m. Make sure you have a plan B in case of severe weather. Any outdoor items such as patio furniture, umbrellas or garden decorations should be secured or brought indoors. Damaging winds in excess of 50 mph could occur. Additionally, torrential rain with localized flooding and heavy hail are possible. An isolated tornado or two cannot be ruled out. The storms will move away later in the evening, gradually clearing overnight and reaching lows of around 18 degrees by morning.

Tuesday will be a much nicer day with lots of sunshine and lower humidity with temperatures between 27 and 30 degrees. Tuesday night we will experience mostly clear skies and lows of around 15 degrees.

On Wednesday there could be a few showers with another cold front with maximum temperatures around 27 degrees.

The rest of the week will be drier with pleasant humidity levels with highs around 21 °C and lows around 10 °C.
