5 injured, 1 dead in shooting in Westport

One man is dead and five other people were injured after shots rang out in the Westport area early Sunday morning. Police officers patrolling the entertainment district said they heard the gunshots around 1:20 a.m. and rushed toward Westport Road and Broadway Boulevard. Officers found several victims and called ambulances. One man died in the hospital. All other victims are expected to survive. Detectives say there was some sort of disturbance at the intersection that escalated into the shooting, and a large group of people were there to watch. One man died in hospital. All other victims are expected to survive.

Investigators say there was a disturbance at the intersection that led to the shooting, and that a large group of people were there to witness it.

The police have detained one person for questioning.
