Two dead in fiery car crash in Wilmington – Daily Breeze

Two bodies were found in a burning car that crashed early Monday at 1300 N. Alameda St. in Wilmington.

The Los Angeles Fire Department responded to a 911 call at 2:13 a.m. and quickly extinguished the flames that engulfed the vehicle, according to Nicholas Prange, fire department spokesman. Firefighters could not determine the age or gender of the two dead occupants or whether they were wearing seat belts at the time of the collision, he added.

The incident was referred to the Los Angeles Police Department and officials stated that the investigation was being handled by the LAPD’s South Traffic Division.

“A vehicle with two occupants crashed into a median,” said LAPD Lieutenant Michelle Loomis.

“They were probably trapped or unconscious when the car caught fire and succumbed to their injuries from the flames in the car.”

Detectives plan to review all available footage of the car, a Nissan Murano, before the collision and are awaiting information from the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office regarding the identities of the two occupants, said LAPD Sergeant Clarence Perkins.
