Rantoul man killed in weekend domestic incident that led to shooting

RANTOUL, Ill. (WCIA) – A 28-year-old Rantoul man is dead after being shot during a domestic incident over the weekend, according to the Champaign County Coroner’s Office.

County Coroner Stephen Thuney said the incident occurred in the area of ​​Sangamon Avenue and Seaver Street. He identified the deceased as Robert McKinney Jr. of Rantoul, who died Sunday morning in the intensive care unit at Carle Hospital in Urbana.


An autopsy is planned for Tuesday.

The Champaign County Coroner’s Office and Rantoul Police are investigating the death. WCIA has reached out to Rantoul Police for more information about the domestic incident that led to the shooting. We have not yet received a response.
