“It took me 25 years to say these words”

Busy Philipps revealed on Thursday that she was raped at the age of 14.

The actress, now 39, made this confession on Instagram during a break in Dr. Christine Blasey Ford’s testimony before the Senate Judiciary Committee about alleged sexual assault by Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh.

Under a school photo apparently from 1993, Philipps said this was the first time she had publicly revealed that she was a rape survivor, having told her family earlier this year.

“This is me at 14. The age I was raped,” she wrote. “It took me 25 years to say these words. I wrote about it in my book. 4 months ago I finally told my parents and sister.”

Ford’s willingness to go public with her own alleged story despite intense scrutiny seemed to have inspired Philipps’s revelation on Thursday morning.

“Today is the day we stop being silent. All of us,” she added. “I’m scared to post this. I can’t imagine what Dr. Ford is feeling right now.”

The former Freaks and Geeks star will shed more light on the alleged incident in her next book. Philipps’ upcoming memoir, This Will Only Hurt A Little, is out October 16 and can be pre-ordered here.
