13 members of a family die in a traffic accident in the Pakistani province of Punjab

Lahore: Thirteen members of a family, including women and children, were killed and nine others injured in a road accident in Pakistan’s Punjab province, authorities said on Monday.

The accident occurred on Sunday in Muzaffarghar district, about 350 kilometers from Lahore, when a minibus collided with a truck.

According to emergency service Rettungs 1122, the accident was so fatal that several people died at the scene.

The rescue team and locals rushed the injured to the hospital, where doctors declared 11 of them dead on arrival, while two later succumbed to their injuries, it said.

The 13 people killed belonged to the same family. Among the dead were four women and three children, officials said. They had travelled to Multan to visit their relatives.

Of the nine injured, three are in critical condition, it was said.

The police have arrested the truck driver and initiated proceedings against him. The driver stated that he lost control of his vehicle due to excessive speed and collided with the minibus.
