Family mourns death of 6-year-old girl killed in crash in Coral Springs

CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. – A 6-year-old girl died in a devastating accident in Coral Springs over the weekend, and a small memorial of flowers and stuffed animals now stands in her honor.

Harlow Tran’s family is struggling with unbearable grief following her death.

After a devastating accident, chaos erupted when an SUV was violently split in half, the aftermath of which was caught on camera.

According to Coral Springs police, the accident occurred at the intersection of West Sample Road and Northwest 85th Avenue just after 5 p.m.

According to an arrest report, an officer attempted to stop a 2023 Mercedes-Benz driven by Chevon Dalton Graham, 26, of Sunrise, because it had an “extremely dark tint” while driving along Sample Road.

Police said Graham, who had two passengers with him, accelerated to escape police; The officer then turned off the lights and siren, but the suspect continued to speed away.

He then crashed into a 2018 Chevrolet Traverse, police said.

Inside that SUV, Harlow was secured in a car seat. The arrest report states that the force of the impact split the Chevrolet in half and ejected it along with the car seat.

Witnesses recounted the heartbreaking scene of the child being thrown from the car but still sitting in his car seat amid the rubble. Despite desperate efforts, Harlow later succumbed to her injuries.

Tanjina Akter described hearing a loud crash while nearby Ring camera footage captured the initial collision and the stopping of the suspect’s car after it collided with parked cars.

“We heard a loud noise that looked like a crash,” she said.

Harlow’s uncle, Alvis Tran, visited the memorial and remembered Harlow as a shy girl who loved dancing and princesses like The Little Mermaid and Frozen.

Tran said he saw Harlow at a family barbecue five minutes before the incident and that his family was devastated by the loss of his niece.

Enrique Perez, Harlow’s uncle, spoke to Local 10 News about how Graham was driving when the accident occurred.

“He was grossly negligent and drove at speeds sufficient to split a car in two,” Perez said.

Perez also confirmed that his mother was driving Harlow at the time of the accident and is still in the hospital.

Police confirmed that Graham was driving with a suspended license at the time of the accident and is now facing charges including vehicular manslaughter.

Witness Germaine Knibbs expressed concern about the fate of the innocent child.

“This is an innocent child riding with his grandmother and now his family has to live with this,” he said.
