Woman who accused ex-CM Yediyurappa of sexually abusing minor daughter dies of cancer

New Delhi, May 27: Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge on Monday sharply criticized the Modi government over the economic situation, exports and rising trade deficit as well as the “Make in India” program and accused it of practicing “false” nationalism by making China its largest trading partner.

“Narendra Modi ji talks about Mangalsutra, Mutton, Machhali, Mughal and Mujra but not about ‘Make in India’? Why does Modi ji not say a single word about the economy in his numerous election speeches? The answer lies in the abject failure of his government,” Kharge said in a post on X.

“The ‘Make in India’ programme has flopped, the PLI programme has failed and exports are in free fall,” he claimed.

Drawing a parallel between the Congress-led UPA and the ten years of the BJP-led NDA government, he said that the growth in manufacturing (in constant 2015 dollars) during the Congress-UPA rule from 2004 to 2014 was 7.85 per cent, while it was 6.0 per cent during Modi’s NDA rule from 2014 to 2022.

The Congress president said India’s export growth was 186.59 per cent during the Congress-UPA rule from 2004-2010 and 94.39 per cent from 2009-2014, while during the Modi-NDA rule it was 21.14 per cent from 2014-2020 and 56.86 per cent from 2019-2024.

“Despite the 56-inch chest-thumping, app bans and fake nationalism, Modi Ji has made China India’s largest trading partner.

“Modi Ji’s carte blanche to China, after the supreme sacrifice of our brave soldiers in Galwan, came with an additional gift. Additional gift – the import value of Chinese goods into India increased from USD 3.32 billion in June 2020 to USD 5.58 billion in July 2020, a whopping 68 percent,” Kharge claimed.

The difference between India’s imports of Chinese goods was Rs 7 billion more than India’s exports last year alone, he said.

Referring to India’s growing trade deficit and dwindling influence, the Congress leader said, “Under Modi Ji, India has recorded a trade deficit with nine of its top 10 trading partners, including China, Russia, Singapore and Korea, in 2023-24.”

India’s trade deficit has increased by a record 194.19 per cent under Modi, he said, adding that it was Rs 8,100 crore during the Congress-UPA rule in 2013-14 and Rs 23,830 crore during the Modi-NDA rule in 2023-2024.

“Modi Ji says he may not be ‘biologically’ born but the ‘logical’ thing to do would be to ‘vote out the BJP’ and ‘vote for INDIA’,” Kharge said ahead of the final phase of the polls on June 1.

Meanwhile, in another post, Congress MP P. Chidambaram accused the government of criticising the state of the Indian railways, which places the brunt of the burden on poor passengers.

“After a decade of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s rule, India’s main passenger transporter, the railways – a central focus of his government – is carrying fewer passengers, making losses but costing more, especially for poorer passengers crammed into proportionally fewer seats on trains that run at broadly the same speeds as under the previous government,” Chidambaram said.
