Pakistan arrests 11 people involved in attack on Chinese nationals – World

ISLAMABAD – Muhammad Tahir Rai, coordinator of Pakistan’s anti-terrorism agency, said on Sunday that security forces had arrested 11 suspects suspected of involvement in an attack on Chinese nationals in March this year.

Addressing a joint press conference with Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, he said the detainees were in police custody and on remand, adding that they would face trial at the local anti-terrorism court where chargesheets would be filed after legal formalities were completed.

Naqvi said foreign soil had been used to attack Chinese nationals in Pakistan, which was a “matter of grave concern” for Pakistan.

The authorities have all the evidence that the attack was planned and carried out by the banned Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) from Afghan soil, the minister said, adding that “the enemy intelligence services” had generously financed the attack.

Pakistan has raised this issue with the Afghan interim government, he added.

There was no official response from the Afghan side.

On March 26, a suicide bomber in a vehicle laden with explosives attacked a convoy of Chinese nationals on their way to a hydropower project, killing five Chinese nationals and their Pakistani driver in the Besham area of Shangla district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.
