JSO: Man dies after shooting in business parking lot on Jacksonville’s Westside

According to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, there were “probably over 100 people” in the parking lot at the time of the incident.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A man died Monday morning after an argument in the parking lot of a west Jacksonville business turned into a shooting in which “multiple shots were fired,” according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.

Sergeant Highfill of the JSO said officers responded to the 5200 block of Normandy Boulevard around 1:10 a.m. for a report of shots fired. He said the man was taken to a local hospital “a short time later” with a life-threatening gunshot wound, where he died.

“What we know now is that there was some sort of dispute in the parking lot of a business that resulted in a gunfire exchange,” Highfill said News from First Coast“The relationships of the people involved in the dispute and the reason for the dispute are still being investigated.”

Police say witnesses drove the man to the hospital. They are being interviewed along with several people who were at the scene when officers arrived. Police say several vehicles were struck by gunfire.

Highfill says the sheriff’s office has identified a suspect in the incident, described as a black male wearing all black clothing at the time.

Businesses near the parking lot where the incident occurred include Charlie’s Liquor, Normandy Arcade and Hookah Lounge Full Bar.

When News from First Coast When asked by Highfill if there was an event going on at the hookah lounge at the time of the argument and shooting, he said, “A lot of people show up here, especially on the weekends. There were probably over 100 people or more here at the time of the incident.”

Highfill confirmed that security personnel were in the parking lot at the time of the incident.

“Based on our initial investigation, they did not return fire and were not involved in the incident,” Highfill said.
