Chinese teenager dies of heart attack after teacher forces him to exercise

The teenager died two days later after being taken to hospital.

In a shocking incident, a Chinese student with a heart condition died after being forced to take part in sports activities by her teacher, according to her family. According to the South China morning post, the first-year student at Baicheng Medical College in the northeastern province of Jilin, experienced the seizure on April 12 while jogging with her classmates. After being taken to the hospital, the teenager, surnamed Zhao, died two days later.

Wang, her aunt, provided the college with medical documents proving her heart problem in 2023 and received a ban from sports activities. However, according to the teen’s aunt, her tutor Song asked her to start jogging because he had “his sights” on her.

She claimed Song’s dissatisfaction with her niece stemmed from an incident in early April in which he suggested to Zhao that he offer his wife live fish as a gift. The teenager placed an online order, but the fish was dead. She said the teacher also removed Zhao from the position of class supervisor. “The teacher was angry and made everything difficult for our child. He said her heart disease document was fake. That’s why she has to walk every day,” said the aunt.

When Zhao fell during the running event on April 12, the teacher warned other students not to approach her. A classmate claims that instead of immediately calling emergency services, he spoke to the university administration: “If we had made the effort to save her in time, I think it would have been effective. “But the tutor wouldn’t let us in near them,” the student said.

A college official confirmed that the teenager died of heart disease. “The police are investigating the case and we are cooperating,” they said.
