Mother of minor girl who accused Yediyurappa of sexual assault dies

Bengaluru: The mother of the minor girl who accused former chief minister and senior BJP politician BS Yediyurappa of sexual abuse died in a private hospital on Sunday.

Well-informed police sources confirmed to DH that the 54-year-old woman died of lung complications late on May 26 at Nano Hospitals in the vicinity of Hulimavu police station in southeast Bengaluru.

A source with knowledge of the matter said the woman had advanced cancer. “She was admitted to hospital with breathing difficulties and later succumbed to the disease,” the source added.

The woman leaves behind a 17-year-old daughter and a son.

On March 14, a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act was registered at Sadashivanagar police station after the woman accused Yediyurappa of sexually abusing her minor daughter when they visited his house in Dollars Colony on February 2 and sought help in previous sexual abuse cases.

The state government later handed over the case to the CID. So far, the CID has recorded the statements of the woman and her daughter under Section 164 of the Criminal Procedure Code. Yediyurappa has categorically denied the allegations.
