Aftermath of Porsche crash in Pune: Mumbai police charge manager and waiter of a Powai bar for serving alcohol to minors | News from Pune

Mumbai police learned from the Porsche accident in Pune on Sunday and took action against the manager and waiter of a bar in Powai for serving alcohol to an underage boy.

While on patrol under Operation All Out (a city-wide prevention drive), Assistant Police Inspector Santosh Kamble received specific information that alcohol was being served to a minor at Lotus Bar and Restaurant in the Saki Vihar Road area.

API Kamble and a team of police officers raided the bar at around 11.40pm and found an underage boy being served alcohol. When questioned, the boy admitted to being 16 years old. The bar served the underage boy alcohol despite a sign saying that alcohol is not served to customers under 18 years of age.

Police summoned the manager, Tek Bahadur Ayer, 47, and the waiter, Vikas Rana, 30. During questioning, the waiter, Rana, admitted that he had served alcohol to the boy.

As part of the investigation, the police seized the alcohol served to the minor and took the bar manager and waiter to Powai police station. They handed the boy over to his parents.

Festive offer

“We have filed a complaint under Section 77 of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015 against the manager and the waiter,” said Jitendra Sonawane, senior inspector of Powai police station.

Details of the police action against the bar will be passed on to the police and tax authorities.

On May 19, two IT professionals were killed in Pune when their motorcycle was hit by a speeding Porsche allegedly driven by a minor at the Kalyani Nagar junction. Police claimed that the teenager was drunk at the time of the accident.

The juvenile court initially granted the teenager bail and asked him to write an essay on road accidents, but following public outrage over the lenient treatment and a request for police review, he was subsequently sent to an observation home until June 5.

Police have arrested the teenager’s father, a real estate agent, and his grandfather in connection with the accident.
