“General Hospital” actor Johnny Wactor dies at age 37 after shooting in Los Angeles

“General Hospital” actor Johnny Wactor, known for his role as Brando Corbin on the popular ABC soap opera, died Saturday from a gunshot wound.

Wactor was shot after he interrupted three male suspects who were allegedly trying to remove a catalytic converter from his vehicle, his mother, Scarlett Wactor, told KABC-TV Los Angeles. The incident happened around 3:25 a.m. PT on Saturday, according to Los Angeles police.

Scarlett Wactor said her son saw someone at his car after he finished work at a rooftop bar. At first he thought his car was being towed.

As he approached his car, one of the suspects, who was wearing a mask, later opened fire on him, Wactor’s mother said, adding that police told her Wactor had done nothing wrong.

While the suspects fled to an unknown location after the shooting, Wactor was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.

In a statement to ABC News, Scarlett Wactor described her son as “a beautiful soul.”

“There are not enough words to express what a wonderful soul he was. He was a loving son and brother, he lived life to the fullest, he set goals and pursued them,” her statement said, adding: “There is a huge hole in our hearts and lives.”

The case is currently being investigated by the LAPD’s Central Division Homicide Unit.

Wactor, 37, played a recurring role on “General Hospital” from 2020 to 2022. He has also appeared in other TV series, including “Criminal Minds,” “Siberia” and “Westworld.”

In a statement posted on General Hospital’s official social media account on Sunday, Wactor was described as “one of a kind.”

“The entire General Hospital family is deeply saddened by the untimely passing of Johnny Wactor,” the statement said. “He was truly one of a kind and it was a joy to work with him every day. Our thoughts and prayers are with his loved ones during this difficult time.”

Sofia Mattson, who plays Sasha Gilmore on “General Hospital,” paid tribute to her former co-star in the comments section of the announcement of Wactor’s death.

“We will miss you so much Johnny,” she wrote. “One of the most incredible people I have ever met ❤️.”
