Weather in Maryland: Warning day on Monday due to possible severe storms

BALTIMORE– Scattered thunderstorms are possible tonight. A few thunderstorms are expected on Memorial Day, some of which could be severe.

The WJZ First Alert Weather Team has issued a WARNING DAY for Monday due to the possibility of severe storms. Storms could include damaging winds, hail and isolated tornadoes. The greatest risk for severe storms will be during the afternoon and evening hours. The storms will come in multiple rounds, so don’t count on a stormy day.

Our first wave of storms will arrive tonight. This first wave of storms could bring strong winds, heavy rain and lightning to the region. The best chance for this first wave of storms will be after 10 p.m. and it will last into the early hours of the night. Although widespread severe weather seems unlikely, some storms could bring damaging wind gusts. Lows will be warm and humid, ranging between 18 and 21 degrees.

Memorial Day on Monday will be very turbulent weather-wise. We will experience rain showers and strong thunderstorms. Another storm surge is likely to hit us on Memorial Day morning, meaning some church services will be subject to rain and thunderstorms. There will likely be a few breaks in the rain throughout the day, with warm and humid weather. The thunderstorms later in the day and evening may become severe, bringing damaging winds, hail and isolated tornadoes. There is still some uncertainty about how far the storms will reach, so please keep checking back for the updated forecast.

Tuesday will be much nicer. There will be a few isolated thunderstorms, but it will be calm for most of the day.

Wednesday is expected to be another day of good weather with isolated showers and thunderstorms. The storms will be strongest in the afternoon and evening. Some of the storms may bring gusty winds and small hail.

From Thursday onwards the weather will be calm, pleasant and fine and will last until at least the beginning of next weekend. Expect sunshine with highs around 21 degrees.
