Nicki Minaj arrested in Amsterdam, claims officers ‘took my bags without consent’

A video was posted on Instagram Live showing the rapper’s arrest.

Nicki Minaj was arrested by police at Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport on Saturday, a source at the Dutch National Police confirmed to ABC News.

A statement from Dutch police said a 41-year-old woman was arrested for attempting to leave the country while “in possession of soft drugs, which is prohibited.”

The police department later announced that she had been released from custody.

“After consultation with the public prosecutor, the suspect was fined and can continue her journey,” the Dutch police posted on X.

On Saturday, Minaj’s scheduled concert in Manchester, England, was postponed until X, according to a statement from the venue.

“Despite Nicki’s best efforts to explore every possible option to make tonight’s show possible, today’s events have made it impossible,” Co-op Live wroteand added: “We are deeply disappointed by the inconvenience this has caused.”

The 12-time Grammy nominee had previously posted a video on Instagram Live in which she speaks to a police officer about the arrest. When she asked why she was arrested, the officer explained that she was arrested “for carrying drugs.”

Minaj used X to update her followers on the dramatic events. “Now they said they found weed and another group of people had to come here to weigh the pre-rolled joints. Keep in mind they took my bags without my consent. My security already informed them that these pre-rolled joints belong to him. Oh and the pilot wants me to delete my Instagram post,” she wrote in a post.

The hashtag #FREENICKI has been trending on X since news of the arrest broke.

ABC News has contacted Minaj’s representative for comment.
