Second work accident at Vreed-en-Hoop Shorebase: Worker in hospital

A worker at the Vreed-en-Hoop Shorebase Inc (VEHSI) artificial island facility on the west coast of Demerara was hospitalized with injuries after a 400-ton crane tipped over during a load test. Both the company and the Ministry of Labour have launched investigations.

“An incident occurred last night and investigations are ongoing,” was all that VESHI’s Public Relations Officer Ajay Baksh said about the incident when contacted by Stabroek News yesterday.

Labor Minister Joseph Hamilton said: “We are alarmed. We are informed and there will be an investigation.”
