Chihuahua police cordon off an area around the train tracks where a man, believed to be a migrant heading to the border, was killed.

EL PASO, Texas (Border Report) – Police in Chihuahua, Mexico, are investigating the death of a man who fell from or was struck by a freight train heading to the border on Sunday.

The body of the man, aged about 20, was recovered near train tracks in the 2 de Junio ​​neighborhood on the northern outskirts of the city. The body had visible injuries and was taken to the medical examiner’s office for an autopsy. The victim was carrying a backpack; A soda bottle filled with water could be seen within reach.

Officials at the scene told reporters that the victim was likely a migrant who fell from or was struck by the train.

Hundreds of migrants have continued to arrive in the city of Chihuahua, about 230 miles south of El Paso, Texas, in recent months. Many are seen walking or hitchhiking to the border town of Juarez or staying overnight in makeshift camps in Chihuahua.
