Two men arrested for road rage incident on Route 8 in Litchfield – NBC Connecticut

Two men were arrested last week in connection with a violent incident on Route 8 in Litchfield.

State Police said they responded to Route 8 North in the area of Exit 41 for a reported disturbance on Friday, May 3, at noon.

According to police, an altercation occurred on the highway in which a driver was sprayed with pepper spray.

One of the drivers reported that a car was driving erratically and changing lanes frequently. He told officers he was driving alongside the car with his hazard lights on and asked them to slow down.

The man reported that the driver then threw water at him, whereupon he eventually drove in front of the car and stopped in the left lane. He told officers he got out of the car and was punched in the face by the passenger in the front seat.

The man then said he sprayed the passenger with pepper spray and drove away, police said.

The other driver told officers that he was not the one driving erratically and claimed that the other driver prevented them from overtaking and continually braked abruptly.

He told authorities that both he and his passenger were pepper-sprayed during the incident. He said he tried to hit the driver but didn’t know if he actually did so because his eyes were irritated by the pepper spray.

During their investigation, state police found a pepper spray device that was used as evidence.

Both drivers were taken into custody and face separate charges. The first driver faces bodily harm, breach of peace, reckless endangerment and reckless driving.

According to the police, the second driver is at risk of breach of the peace and bodily harm. Both were released on bail and are scheduled to appear in court on May 17.
