Neighbors in northeast Louisville shocked after man killed following storms Sunday afternoon

JAMIE. LAUREN. WE’RE HERE NEAR POPE AND FRANKFORT STREETS WHERE YOU CAN SEE THE DAMAGE THESE HIGH WINDS DID THIS AFTERNOON. IF YOU LOOK BEHIND ME RIGHT NOW, YOU CAN SEE THAT THIS TREE FALLEN AND LANDED ON PART OF THE ROOF OF THIS HOUSE. HERE. BUT WITHIN OUR VIEW, THERE WAS A LOT MORE THAN JUST HOUSES DAMAGE. POLICE SAY ONE PERSON DIED DURING THE STORMS AND IT GOT DARKER AND IT STARTED TO RAIN HEAVIER. NEIGHBORS ALL THROUGH THE LOUISVILLE AREA SAY STRONG WINDS FOLLOWED QUICKLY AS THE STORM PULLED THROUGH THE AREA SUNDAY AFTERNOON. PATRICE CHILDRESS SAYS SHE WAS HOME IN FERN CREEK WHEN SHE HEARD TREES CRACK. AND THEN THESE HEAVY BRANCHES CRASHED ON HER PATIO. IT WAS JUST A LOUD CRACK AND I KNEW THE TIME LOOKED OUT THE WINDOW. MY KIDS RAN IN AND WE LOOKED OUT AND SAW ALL THE DAMAGE AROUND J TOWN. THERE WERE SEVERAL DOWNED POWER LINES AND UPROOFTHE TREES BLOCKING THE ROADS ALL THROUGH THE AREA AND VISIBLE FOR ALL TO SEE. THE ROOF OF A DAYCARE CENTER WAS BROKEN AWAY. SURVEILLANCE VIDEO SHOWS PART OF THE ROOF BEING LIFTED UP BY STRONG WINDS NEAR ANCHORAGE. A MAN WAS KILLED AFTER HE WAS FALLING FROM A TREE NEAR HOP STATION ROAD, ACCORDING TO POLICE STATEMENTS. NEIGHBORS SAY THE MAN WAS WORKING AS A LANDSCAPER WHEN HE WAS KILLED. Neighbors in northeast Louisville shocked after man killed following storms Sunday afternoon

Neighbors throughout the Louisville area reported strong winds and severe storms in the area Sunday afternoon. Patrice Childress says she was at her Fern Creek home when she heard trees breaking and then heavy branches crashing onto her patio. “It was just a loud crash and I went to the window to look. My kids ran in and we looked out and then we saw all the damage,” Childress said. In the Jtown area, several downed power lines and uprooted trees blocked streets. In Plainview, the roof of a daycare center was blown off. Surveillance video shows part of the roof being lifted by the strong winds. Near Anchorage, a man was killed after police say he was struck by a tree near Hobbs Station Road and died at the scene. Jordan Burns, who lives nearby, was shocked to learn what happened. “It’s unfortunate and it really saddens me to hear about it, especially since I live so close to it,” Burns said. Neighbors say the devastating tragedy has devastated them. “It’s awful. It’s awful. We wish the family nothing but the best. We’re so sorry that this happened. You never expect something like this to happen in your neighborhood,” Patten Ondishko said. LMPD said it is continuing to investigate the death near Anchorage.

Near Anchorage, a man was killed after he was struck by a tree near Hobbs Station Road and died at the scene, according to police. Jordan Burns, who lives nearby, was shocked to learn what had happened.

“It’s unfortunate and makes me really sad to hear about it, especially since I live so close to it,” Burns said.

Neighbors say the devastating tragedy has left them devastated.

“It’s awful. It’s awful. We wish the family nothing but the best. We’re so sorry this happened. You never expect something like this to happen in your neighborhood,” Patten Ondishko said.

The LMPD said the investigation into the death near Anchorage is ongoing.
