A New York City Google employee who disappeared while on an afternoon run to visit her mother in another state has been found murdered in a heavily wooded area.

Vanessa Marcottes was discovered by a state police dog unit at around 8:20 p.m. on Sunday less than two kilometers from her mother’s house.

According to a source at local news channel Fox25, Ms Marcotte was raped and set on fire.

The 27-year-old reportedly suffered burns to her hands, head and feet and was missing items of clothing.

She was reported missing after she failed to return from her afternoon run in Princeton, Massachusetts, 75 miles west of Boston.

Worcester District Attorney Joseph Early Jr. told reporters at a press conference: “We have a terrible set of facts, terrible circumstances.”

“We do not know if this was a random act. We ask the residents of Princeton and the surrounding area to exercise extreme caution.”

“People should be concerned,” Early also told the local press.

However, Early stated that there is currently “no connection” between Ms. Marcotte’s death and the unsolved murder of Karina Vetrano, a jogger who was killed in Queens last week.

Ms. Vetrano disappeared after leaving for her daily run on a trail in Spring Creek Park in Queens around 5 p.m. on August 2.

She usually ran with her father, Philip Vetrano, but he struggled with back pain and stayed home.

The 30-year-old was running in a remote part of the park, even though her father had warned her not to run without him on the path.

She did not return home on time and did not answer the phone when her father called, whereupon he reported her missing.

Five hours later, Mr. Vetrano discovered his daughter’s body about 15 feet from the running track, lying face down in the weeds in a park, her sweatpants partially pulled down.

Her clothes were in disarray, indicating a possible sexual assault, police said.

An autopsy revealed that she died of strangulation.

Police are examining videos from the area to identify the killer.

No suspects have been found yet, but Mr Vetrano, a former firefighter, praised police efforts in the case and said the family owed “everything” to their search.

Ms. Vetrano was a speech pathologist graduate of St. John’s University and also an aspiring writer.

The striking brunette was an active Instagram user, frequently posting photos of her luxurious travels around the world, her summer fun with friends, and her running activities.

Google, Ms. Marcotte’s employer, released the following statement on her death.

“Vanessa Marcotte was a much-loved member of the Google team. She worked in our New York office for the past year and a half and was known for her ever-present smile, passion for volunteerism, and love of Boston sports.

“We are deeply shocked and saddened and our thoughts are with her family and friends.”

According to the victim’s LinkedIn profile, the Boston University graduate had worked as an account manager at Google in New York City for nearly two years.

To determine the exact cause of death, an autopsy of Ms. Marcotte was scheduled.
