Serial rape horror: SIT tries to identify more survivors | Bhopal News

BHOPAL: A nine-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) on Sunday began its investigation into the Sidhi serial rape case in which at least seven tribal girls were sexually abused by a 30-year-old man who posed as a woman through an app and lured them into his trap.

The SIT’s priority is to identify more potential survivors. The police are searching phone records and using technical analysis to do so.

The accused, 30-year-old Brajesh Prajapati, stole the girls’ mobile phones after raping them. After his arrest, police found 16 stolen mobile phones from him, but he has so far confessed to seven rapes. Brajesh, who is in police custody till May 27, behaves like a “hardened criminal” and changes his statements frequently, sources say. He tries to block questions and conducts his interrogations very skilfully, they say. The SIT is headed by Roshni Singh Thakur, a police officer of Kusmi sub-division. “The investigation was already underway. The SIT has been set up to ensure a thorough probe. We are probing all aspects. Both technical and scientific means are being used,” Thakur told TOI on Sunday.
